On Thursday, May 28, 2026, Curtis Singleton continued his service as a Richland County board member with the Central Midlands Council of Governments Board of Directors, reviewing regional matters connected to transportation, infrastructure, planning, and community development.

As a board member, Singleton’s role is not ceremonial. Board service carries a responsibility to remain informed, review agenda materials, consider regional priorities, and help support decisions that affect local governments, communities, residents, and families across the Midlands.

The May 2026 board meeting included several important matters connected to transportation planning, infrastructure, financial oversight, community development, aging services, environmental planning, and long-term regional growth.

The board packet included a review of the monthly financial status report, the CMCOG Fiscal Year 2027 budget, wastewater planning matters involving the Fairfield Joint Water and Sewer System, transportation improvement amendments, rural planning initiatives, and updates related to regional services and development.

Curtis Singleton’s board service reflects a continued commitment to informed leadership, regional cooperation, and responsible public decision-making.

One major area of board consideration involved regional infrastructure and wastewater planning in Fairfield County. The packet included proposed actions involving the Fairfield Joint Water and Sewer System, including a new 208 Designated Management Agency and map change, as well as a proposed new wastewater treatment plant with eventual discharge into the Broad River.

The agenda also included transportation-related items through the Metropolitan Planning Organization, including Section 5310 projects designed to improve mobility for seniors and individuals with disabilities. These projects support transportation services where public transportation may be insufficient, inappropriate, or unavailable.

Additional planning matters included transportation alternative projects, intersection improvements, updates to the Unified Planning Work Program, rural microtransit studies, and a Town of Prosperity land use and transportation analysis. These planning efforts support regional connectivity, accessibility, safety, and future growth across the Midlands.

For Singleton, service on the board reflects a continued commitment to public service beyond one position or title. His involvement in regional planning and civic leadership aligns with his broader work in community service, mentorship, public safety, and advocacy.

“Board service is a responsibility,” Singleton said. “It requires preparation, attention, and a commitment to understanding the issues that affect communities across the region.”

The Central Midlands Council of Governments serves local governments throughout the Midlands and helps coordinate regional efforts involving transportation, planning, aging services, workforce development, environmental planning, and community development. Curtis Singleton’s continued service as a Richland County board member reflects his ongoing commitment to leadership, service, and strengthening communities across South Carolina.
