Curtis M. Singleton Supports Regional Planning Through Central Midlands Council of Governments Board Service

Curtis M. Singleton, also known as Curtis Singleton, supports regional planning through Central Midlands Council of Governments Board service for Richland County.

Curtis M. Singleton, also known professionally as Curtis Singleton, continues serving as a Richland County representative on the Central Midlands Council of Governments Board of Directors.

The Central Midlands Council of Governments, commonly known as CMCOG, brings together local leaders from Richland, Lexington, Fairfield, and Newberry counties to address issues that extend beyond the boundaries of any one city or county. Its work helps local governments coordinate planning related to transportation, infrastructure, workforce development, aging services, community development, environmental planning, and regional growth.

At recent Board meetings, CMCOG members reviewed a number of issues affecting the Midlands. These included financial oversight, long-range transportation planning, regional infrastructure needs, transportation access for seniors and individuals with disabilities, pedestrian and sidewalk improvements, and future mobility options for both urban and rural communities.

The Board also reviewed information related to the region’s Long-Range Transportation Plan. This planning process looks ahead at transportation needs over the coming decades and helps identify projects that can improve safety, reduce congestion, strengthen access to jobs and services, and support the continued growth of the Midlands.

Current regional planning discussions have included intersection improvements, road projects, bike and pedestrian facilities, transportation alternatives, and studies involving on-demand transit options in communities where traditional fixed-route transit may not be practical.

CMCOG’s work also includes helping communities prepare for emerging development issues. During its June 2026 meeting, the Board received data-center information training and reviewed planning resources intended to help local governments consider infrastructure, land use, water, energy, transportation, and community impacts as growth opportunities arise.

Singleton’s Board service reflects his continued commitment to public service and to helping ensure that the Midlands remains prepared for future needs. His participation supports a regional approach to solving challenges that affect residents, businesses, public agencies, and communities throughout the area.
